ABOUT

Inspired by Give and Take by Professor Adam Grant, the Wharton Undergraduate Giving Society was founded in 2013 to promote a culture of giving. We encourage students to become givers:
to benefit others while building your impact.
We are a society of students who believe that giving, interpersonal acts that benefit others, are, indirectly, a viable strategy for increasing organizational productivity and personal success.
MISSION
To promote a culture of giving in the Wharton Undergraduate community through opportunities for interaction and education, thereby positively impacting the student experience.
VISION
A Wharton student body knowledgeable of the benefits of giving over taking who applies these principles in order to create a more amicable and integrated community.

WHAT IS GIVING?

Broadly, we define giving as contributing to others without expecting anything in return. As a club, we promote interpersonal giving:Â actions such as favors, mentorship, time and resources given from one individual to another.

According to Adam Grant's research, most people operate as either takers, matchers, or givers. Whereas takers strive to get as much as possible from others and matchers aim to trade evenly, givers are the rare breed of people who contribute to others without expecting anything in return.

Givers are most likely to succeed than takers and matchers. Why? Because success no longer depends on talent or hard work alone. It also depends on how we interact with people. We believe individual success is important. And we want to help you achieve success. With WUGS, learn how to be a giver and the benefits of being a giver.
